Diabetic Angels

I was just wondering if anyone here has been using a CGM. I tried one for a week that was loaned to me from my doctor's office. She really wants me to consider getting one now, and I would love to here how it has worked for others! Oh and what brand of CGM do you use. Thanks for any help!

Hi Jess! I started the Medtronic CGM in April of 2007, and at first I had quite a hard time wearing it, but when I found out I was inserting it wrong - that became a whole other story. Once I was wearing the CGM correctly, I was so happy it worked out so well! I really liked having the ability of seeing the trends that my blood sugar was making and not only could I see it, but my endocrinologist really liked being able to download the information from my Medtronic insulin pump to be able to see the trends and tweak my basal rates and insulin ratios if necessary.

I was at a JDRF Research Update a while back and I received some very helpful advice about wearing the CGM transmitter so it doesn't irritate the skin. He said to get a knuckle band-aid and lay it lengthwise to the transmitter so there was just a little edge of the band-aid tape on the edge for it to stick to my skin. It can get wet and it's much more flexible than the adhesive tape I used to use. So far, it's worked really well for me! :) But, as much as I like it, I do find that I need to take a break from it..and then of course, the beeping does get to me after a while! :)

Another thing, if you want to see how to put in the sensor, I just re-posted a blog HERE from about 2 years ago when I went on the Minimed Medtronic CGM.

Wow that needle looks scary! They hooked me to a Dexcom and while they did the insertion it didn't seem too bad. Has it helped with your a1c? I'm just wondering if I really want something else to attach myself to, but I know I don't have to wear it all the time. During the week I had it on I really liked seeing where things were going. I just have things to think about! :) Thanks for the reply!!
