School Compliance

After several months of High blood sugars at school and nurses arguing about everything, I called a 504 meeting and made it a conference call where our Endocrinologist was able to listen and the Teachers etc ask questions. It came to the point that the school did not want to accomodate my daughters needs during state testing. So, Our Endo stated that she would document the schools non compliance to my daughters medical management plan and I had a simple form drawn up by a lawyer that stated that the school in refusing to comply totally with the medical management paln was totally responsible and would be HELD totally responsible for everything from Health issues to academic performance. The RESULT: My daughter now has what she needs to take care of her diabetes in school and in the classroom with accomodations.

We have been very fortunate to have a school district that includes both nurses and teachers that have been very accomodating to my daughter. Kudos to the WISD in Whitehouse, Tx. They have been angels to my daughter and our family!; ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by Alissa Schmitz on November 17, 2009 at 7:09pm: I have something similar at my daughters school.The nurse was saying she was high at school being newly diagnosed for 3 months trying to figure it out thru honeymoon phase in first two months as soon as school started her bs was high.I thought she was stressed because new school .First fought for water and extra bathroom breaks with doctor note.Well the nurse blew up called Doctor said all these untrue facts without consulting me.Well after investigating took my daughters moniter to school mine was always lower by at least 100.The nurse did not calibrate it to correct number.Thank god I figured it out before they changed her Meds now she has been normal at school.Needless to say I have a 504 plan in the works Alissa; ▶ Reply to This
