I'm sorry to hear about your highs and lows, as well as, not receiving any notification about recall. The patients that did not receive a call either had out dated mailing addresses, or incorrect contact info. Also if you receive your pump supplies from a distributor then your distributor should have taken care of it. There were a few distributors that were pretty slow in contacting patients or forwarding patient lists to Medtronic. You can call Medtronic and ask them to replace all of your Lot 8 infusion sets. 1800minimed.

I was wondering if anyone had issues with the recall for the infusion tubing. The recall was in July 2009 and I never got a letter or a phone call about this. The only way I found out about this was looking on the internet after I had serious lows and highs.
I'm glad that there are forums where people can speak their mind and share their opinions. I have a few things to share as well:
1. I am a Minimed rep so keep that in mind.
2. I have worked with hundreds and hundreds of insulin and non-insulin pumpers over the last 12 years. Everyday I have the pleasure of working with kids to adults. it's Awesome!!!
3. Air bubbles are part of pumping. They are rare and many times results of bad habits. My nurse and I are always available should someone encounter an air bubble.
4. Medtronic is the only company that improved the reservoir/infusion set connection. Animas continues to utilize a generic set, made by a different company. Good luck with customer service set issues at 1am.
5. Dexcom is a good sensor but the Medtronic Minilink is just as good if not better because it links to the pump and has been proven in clinical trials to be more accurate.
6. Carelink software kicks serious butt. Ever tried to download an Animas pump? Grab a sandwich, a drink, maybe some chips and don't plan on insulin for awhile. Plus the data doesn't tell you much. Carelink allows Medtronic users download their pumps quickly and remotely. The reports provide up-to-date sensor, insulin, blood sugar, bolus wizard data and much much more. Oh yea Carelink is online so you can download your pump anywhere in the world and your MD can view at home or in their office. Pretty cool. I had one of the best Adult Endos in the LV area tell me last week, "Isaac, I love Carelink. I can't do without it!". He prescribes about 80 pumps a year.
7. Who wants a tool belt? Maybe Tim the Tool Man Taylor but not if your diabetic. With Animas that's what you get. Pump, Meter, Dexcom system that includes a separate display. How exciting. Now you get to call Animas, Dexcom, and the generic infusion set company.
8. With Medtronic you get an all-in-one system with supporting software. No tool belt needed. By the way how is the closed loop system going to work? I hope that it's not a collection of devices from different manufacturers.
9. Medtronic has the largest support staff of any device manufacturer. I always give my personal cell phone number to patients, they may need it someday. In addition Medtronic has online videos for additional training, pump school online, live 24hr support, and is expanding operations. Did you know that Medtronic Diabetes just opened a larger facility in San Antonio, TX? what a new facility in these tough economic times you say? It's needed. Ask Lifescan how they're doing?
10. There's a buzz at Medtronic. Much more to come. Talk to your local Medtronic Minimed rep about current products. If you need help call the experienced experts.
i am not an amimas rep.... i am just a pumper trying to live healthy with no air bubble problems... no matter what you try... you will eventually get air in the canula and tubing....SO CALL ANIMAS OR GO ON LINE TO ANIMAS.COM
WELL AFTER YEARS OF TRYING TO GET NO AIR BUBBLES IN MY TUBBING... finally i found the answer ... the answer that many many medtronic pumpers have been look for...."call animas and get yourself an animas ping pump.... you can trade in your medtronic pump and pay only $200.... try it or call ...
try the dexcom seven sensor.... best sensor ever... go to the site DEXCOM.COM... this will give you piece of mind... you will stop all of the worrying....
WHY DIDN'T ANYONE EVER TELL ME...to degas the insulin vial before you fill a new res........it only took me 4 years to find this out.... so get the word out...."make sure to degas that insulin vial... wait 10 minutes..... prime.... attach the tubing.... rewind the pump... prime the pump.... attach the canula...
hope this helps alot of pumpers.... wish someone had told me this before...
